Book Doula

doula [ doo-luh ] a woman who assists women during labor and after childbirth.
Book Doula [ book doo-luh ] a person who supports writers during the process of drafting, revising, and submitting their book-length projects.
As an author who has flourished under the supportive guidance and camaraderie of many writing teachers and writing groups (including Red Wheelbarrow Writers and Cascade Writers), I know that authors need a combination of good mentorship, critique, and editing to bring their stories to life. Even though writing is a solitary endeavor, authors often aspire to share their stories through publication. Sharing our stories with a broad audience can create transformative conversations, build connections between people, and offer possibilities for new futures.
Currently, I am the Lead Coach in a program called The Narrative Project. TNP creates a supportive wrap-around program of virtual classes, in-person retreats, write-ins, critique groups, and publication that have proven to encourage writers from concept to finished book. In addition to my MFA in Creative Writing, I bring nearly twenty years of literary and scientific editing experience to my clients.
Over the past 4 years, I’ve helped create TNP’s coaching practices and curriculum that have transformed tentative writers into published authors. I’m honored to be part of The Narrative Project and to serve as co-editor for the program’s anthologies, True Stories, Vol. 1: The Narrative Project Program Anthology and True Stories, Vol. 2:The Narrative Project Program Anthology.
The Narrative Project is also thrilled to be part of the support team for the following published books:
- A Quest for Tears: Surviving Traumatic Brain Injury, by Sean Dwyer
- The Uncomfortable Confessions of a Preacher’s Kid, by Ronna Russel
